My story

Hello! I am a veterinary nurse and a self-taught silversmith in my spare time (if such a thing is possible).

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved creating things. It has helped me get through tough days and difficult moments in life. My grandmother taught me how to sew, make lace, and even build things like chicken coops xD. My mother taught me how to knit, and I loved to draw, just like my father. I also learnt how to do macramé.

In 2020, I came across silversmithing and thought, “Is this something I can learn?”, and that was the beginning of my journey as a self-taught silversmith. I started watching and studying how to create silver rings and learning other fascinating things about the craft, and I became obsessed.

With time, knowledge, and experience, I finally found the courage to share my art with the world, hoping it will be enjoyed as much as I enjoy creating it. The name byMZ is a tribute to my grandmother, a resilient and strong woman.

As a small handmade business, every piece is made by me in my little studio in a village in the heart of Portugal. I don’t keep large quantities in stock, and I believe that makes each piece more meaningful, creating a stronger connection between the maker and the wearer.

Being a veterinary nurse and someone who struggles with anxiety, my days can often be chaotic, stressful, and sometimes sad. My studio is where everything quiets down and creativity takes over.
